Bishop Choby fell, hitting his left shoulder and elbow on the parking lot. He was taken to Saint Thomas West Hospital where X-rays found that he has a fracture of the proximal humerus bone close to the shoulder on the left arm. The medical staff had been able to control the pain from his broken arm with medication.
After consultations with his cardiologist and an orthopedic surgeon, plans were made to stabilize the break with a metal plate and screws. The surgery is scheduled for Saturday.
Bishop Choby said he very much appreciates the concern that has been expressed by many, and the interest of those calling to check on his condition. Out of consideration of the other duties of the nursing staff at Saint Thomas Hospital and of his office staff at the chancery, he asked that the primary means of notification of his condition be via e-mail.
The bishop very much appreciates the prayers on his behalf.
Bishop Choby is aware that individuals have contacted the office about sending him flowers. Rather than doing that, he would prefer expressions of concern take the form of a donation to the Ladies of Charity.
He continues to be comfortable and in very good spirits. He is looking forward to the surgery so that he can begin his recovery.
Bishop Choby’s schedule is undetermined at this time while he recovers.
