Saint Rose of Lima Church, located in Murfreesboro, TN, is a growing parish with a talented and energetic staff serving over 3000 families. We are seeking a Principal Organist. This position is part-time with schedule detailed below.

Under the supervision of the pastor, the Director of Liturgical Music and Organist oversees the music program of the parish, including: arranging for music for all parish Masses and other services; playing and directing at certain Masses; recruiting, training, and scheduling musicians (both volunteer and paid); developing choirs; preparing liturgy resources; overseeing budget and payments; and overseeing maintenance of the organ, piano, sound system, hearing loop and other resources.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Plan and Execute Music as director and organist

1. Three weekend Masses

2. Holy Days of Obligation and other Feast and Parish Occasions

3. Occasional celebrations of the Divine Office

Plan and Execute parish funerals and weddings

Oversee musical needs for the following:

1. Two Spanish Masses per weekend

2. School Masses in consultation with school music teacher

3. One weekend Mass with Praise and Worship musicians

Recruit, train, rehearse, schedule, and coordinate volunteer musicians, including:

1. Adult choir

2. Children’s choir

3. Schola

4. Spanish musicians, as requested/needed

5. Cantors/musicians for weekly mass

Recruit and coordinate professional musicians, including:

1. Praise and Worship leaders

2. Choral section/schola leaders

3. Substitute and/or assistant organists

4. Cantors/musicians for funeral and weddings

Prepare liturgy guides/resources for:

1. Praise and Worship Mass

2. Sunday Masses, as needed

3. Special occasions, for example, Christmas and Holy Week

4. Plan for and recommend missal/hymnal for church/school use

Oversee Music Budget and Payments:

1. Prepare and maintain music budget with Business Manager

2. Oversee payment schedule for other musicians on payroll, as well as contracted musicians

3. Approve invoices related to the music program & musicians

Oversee Maintenance of:

1. Organ

2. Pianos in church and school

Meet regularly with pastor, clergy, school principal and music teacher

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

1. Bachelor’s degree in a related field of music or liturgy.

2. 1-3 years of experience in Catholic parish music ministry.

2. Commitment to a life of holiness, including a vigorous prayer and sacramental life.

3. Ability to promote the music program with in the parish and community.

4. Commitment to the Catholic moral, intellectual, and sacramental life.

5. Schedule flexibility to work weekends and nights.

6. Valid driver’s license.

7. Ability to inspire a vision for the parish music program and to work with parishioners.

8. Computer skills for work processing, office publishing, spread sheet and data management, internet, and social networking.
