SUMMARY
The Executive Director for Exceptional Learning supports the Catholic Schools Office by overseeing programs for exceptional learners with intellectual and developmental disabilities as well as other learning differences in the diocesan schools. The Executive Director of Exceptional Learning also assists schools in their efforts to provide exemplary support for all learners through Hand In Hand Options (HIHO). HIHO is a separate diocesan corporate entity that is overseen by the Corporate members. It coordinates activities for Catholic schools through the Office of Mission Integration.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
- Oversees the operations of the HIHO, Inc. Board of trustees and its committees, coordinates meetings and reporting and maintains legal records for the corporation.
- Ensures HIHO schools’ compliance with the program and legal standards through regular visits and contact.
- Advances partnerships with the local universities, prioritizing Vanderbilt University’s partnership with HIHO as well as health care providers to continually improve services for children in diocesan schools.
- Provides principals, teachers, and aides “proven practices” documentation to promote exceptional learning strategies, particularly those pertaining to curriculum modification, behavior management, and effective assessment practices.
- Leads a collaborative process to regularly review, and improve as needed, the standard protocols for Student Support Teams (SST) for all diocesan Catholic schools and readily serves as resource for parents, pastors, and principals as requested.
- Monitors local, state, and federal activity to leverage support for SST and exceptional learner programs, particular financial supports or grant opportunities.
- Works with the Office of Media and Evangelization to increase awareness of and support for the HIHO program in the community.
- Works with the Catholic Schools Office to plan professional learning opportunities pertaining to exceptional, learners and effective classroom practices for all diocesan teachers.
- Responsible for fundraising and grant opportunities in coordination with the Diocesan Development Office.
- Assists with additional requests made by the Superintendent, the Chief Operating Officer, and the Bishop.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Masters Degree in Special Education.
- At least five years of successful experience in special education program/classroom.
- Catholic School experience preferred.
OTHER SKILLS
- Well-versed in full inclusion models of education.
- Knowledgeable in RTI & 3-tier Models for instruction.
- Well-versed in federal and state programs to leverage benefits and services for our schools.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to lead and coach others.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Computer proficiency, able to navigate Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to drive to schools and parishes.
