Since 1868

Calvary Cemetery

For more than 150 years, the Diocese of Nashville’s Calvary Cemetery has served as the final sacred resting place of Catholic and Christian families in Middle Tennessee.

Sacred Ground

History and Catholic Identity

Calvary Cemetery was dedicated on Nov. 29, 1868, by the Right Reverend Patrick Augustine Feehan, Third Bishop of Nashville (1865-1880). Owned and operated by the Catholic Diocese of Nashville, Calvary Cemetery is the only Catholic cemetery in Nashville.

The cemetery sits on 47 scenic acres at 1001 Lebanon Pike, with traditional in-ground burial, mausoleums, and columbarium adorned with Christian monuments and sculptures. Calvary Cemetery reflects the Church's belief in the dignity of the human body, the hope of the Resurrection, and the call to pray for the faithful departed.

Generations of Nashville's Catholic families, clergy, religious, and veterans rest in this sacred ground.

Our Heavenly Reward

A Word From the Bishop

Calvary Cemetery is a place of great faith. This sacred ground, which has been shepherded by the previous bishops of Nashville for more than 150 years, is a testimony to our baptismal belief in the communion of saints and the resurrection of the dead.

God the Father has given us the most profound gift that He could give: the gift of Himself through His Son. At His table of word and sacrament, that gives us nourishment to go out and live as we are called to live. His gift was so that one day, ultimately, we may join Him at the banquet table of the Lamb.

At Calvary Cemetery, we, the Pilgrim Church on earth, remember and pray for the souls of those who have gone before us, that they may receive that same heavenly reward. It is what God wants for us, to be with Him. If we remain courageous in following His will for our lives on earth, He will be there waiting for us in heaven.
