Description

Saint Lawrence, a small growing parish, is seeking a qualified musician to enhance the liturgical celebrations of the parish. He or she must have the ability to interpret and use both traditional and contemporary styles of music in a manner that magnifies the beauty of Sacred Liturgy. This contractual position includes planning and coordinating the music for two weekend Masses, Saturday and Sunday, and major Feast Days. This contractual position is under the supervision of the Pastor.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Have proven ability to lead worship, playing both the organ and piano.
  • Have skills in choral and instrumental conducting, as well as the ability to develop voices, and be able to lead vocally as well as instrumentally.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with the Pastor and his delegate(s) to plan and coordinate music for liturgies.
  • Ability to work with adults, youth, and younger children.
  • Flexible and innovative to accommodate unforeseen circumstances that impact the liturgies.
  • Model integrity and Christian charity to those you serve.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Five to seven years as a church choir director, assistant director, or choral director.
  • Teaching experience.
  • A bachelor’s degree in music.

Responsibilities:

  • Works to develop the adult choirs and children’s choir to prepare for special events and adequately deliver ministry through music to the congregation.
  • In cooperation with the pastor, plans and implements the music for Saturday evening and Sunday morning liturgy, as well as special Feast Days such as Lent, Christmas, etc.
  • Attends staff meetings (when appropriate or as needed).
  • Will be available for funerals upon request or assist in seeking a replacement
  • when not provided by the deceased's family. (May be asked by the family at the family’s expense)
  • Secures substitute musicians to fill in during vacations or emergency events (at the church’s expense.)

Relationships

The musician will work collaboratively with the pastor, his delegate(s), to enhance the liturgies of the congregation. Will develop productive and positive relationships with choir members and guest musicians to enhance liturgies.

Evaluation

A performance evaluation will be conducted annually by the pastor as head of staff.

Payment Structure

The contractual position pays $80 per Mass (one Saturday evening & one Sunday morning), plus Feast Day liturgies, and potential funerals. In addition, choir rehearsals pay $20 per session.
