Part-time Organist for Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Springfield, TN
Job Role
Part-time organist for Catholic music liturgy Saturday 5 p.m. Masses fulfilling Sunday obligation. Additional opportunities are available for organist at English Mass Catholic liturgy on Holy Days of Obligation, feast days, funerals and weddings. Instrument is a Rodgers digital electronic organ.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Playing the musical portions of the Catholic mass parts and hymns and accompanying vocalists and choir(s)
- Cantor psalms, alleluia, special music and leading the worshiping congregation in mass parts and hymns.
- Ability to work with and collaborate with parish staff, professional and volunteer musicians and colleague accompanists.
- Prepare for and rehearse selected mass hymns, mass parts, special music and with other vocalists and musicians as needed for effective liturgy celebration.
- Prepare additional music appropriate to Catholic liturgy and repertoire.
- Notify church leader in advance of absence and arrange for substitutes during times of absence.
- Models Catholic pastoral ministry and worship.
Minimal Qualifications
Education, Training, Abilities and Experience:
- Post high school education and/or musical training
- Sound musical knowledge
- Minimum 2-3 years of experience as organist preferred
- Competent in communications, interpersonal and relationship “people” skills
- Knowledgeable of Catholic liturgical practices
- Computer and mobile device competent (e.g. Microsoft Office, Internet Browser)
Physical Demands:
- Ability to walk up and down stairs, balance and kneel
- Lifting, pushing or pulling required of objects up to 10 pounds.
- Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands, arms and legs
