Part-time

For each teaching position, Father Ryan seeks a person of faith who is creative, enthusiastic, and well-versed in the core subject area and current pedagogy. The candidate should provide support to the instructional process by serving as a teacher with specific responsibility for supervising students, developing lesson plans and delivering group instruction within established curriculum guidelines, collaborating with colleagues, and responding to a wide range of inquiries from various stakeholders regarding the instructional program and student progress. The candidate should possess excellent writing and communication skills, an ability and desire to work collaboratively, and a familiarity with technologies standard in the educational profession. Candidates should expect to have extra-curricular duties assigned to them, as well, and should include areas in which they could moderate clubs or coach

Requirements

The most qualified candidates should:

  • Have a master's degree or higher;
  • Have a major in Spanish, significant coursework in Spanish, or be prepared to show mastery of the Spanish language;
  • Have a minimum of three years of teaching experience;
  • Have familiarity with the comprehensible input method of language acquisition;
  • Accept and support the values and principles of Catholic education within the mission of the Church, in an atmosphere of trust, mutual respect, and integrity. The person does not have to be a Catholic; however, a person who practices his/her own faith is important;
  • Act as an engaged House System member and be an effective Mentor Group Leader;
  • Follow the school pacing guides and diocesan mandates for curriculum;
  • Plan how to deliver comprehensible course content, create materials, and employ varied measures of instruction in collaboration with other Spanish teachers to create support and maintain parity among parallel courses as well as vertical alignment;
  • Encourage students to listen actively, speak often and take risks while acquiring the language;
  • Embrace the idea that errors are an expected part of acquiring language and build in opportunities for feedback and reflection while explicitly modeling a growth mindset;
  • Demonstrate compassion and knowledge in delivering content to students with diverse learning styles;
  • Cooperate and participate in the evaluation of language acquisition using a mastery-based approach to assessment;
  • Take part in the professional development program of the school;
  • Maintain cordial relationships with colleagues;
  • Follow the ethics of the profession;
  • Create a classroom environment that recognizes and respects the value of each student, while exercising appropriate classroom management;
  • Work in partnership with parents in the ongoing process of educating their child.
