Established in 2021, University Catholic at Middle Tennessee State University (UCat-MTSU) is a ministry of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church (Diocese of Nashville) that serves college and college-age students in the Murfreesboro, Tennessee area. The campus minister is responsible for “Proposing Jesus Christ and forming His disciples” among the students of Middle Tennessee State University, Motlow State Community College (Smyrna campus), and Tennessee College of Technology, Murfreesboro.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide a ministry of presence and pastoral care with students to encourage faith formation and assimilation, personal growth, and vocation discernment.
- Form students in Catholic faith and discipleship
- Develop servant-leadership in students
- Develop connections with University departments, administration, faculty, etc.
- Develop a network of community engagement (alumni, local benefactors, diocesan stakeholders) to financially support the work of UCat-MTSU
- Maintain and vision UCat-MTSU’s relationships with Middle Tennessee State University, St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Diocese of Nashville, and other ministry partners (FOCUS, Knights of Columbus)
- Administer resources (financial, human, and physical) for the ministry.
Desired skills and experiences:
- Practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church
- Degree in theology or related field or commensurate experience and training
- 2 years experience in university campus ministry
- Strong oral and written communication
- Good interpersonal and conversation skills
- Basic financial recordkeeping ability
- Ability to navigate multiple kinds of professional relationships
- Willingness to work on Sundays and weekday evenings
- Striving for personal holiness and life of prayer
It is strongly preferred that a candidate will be willing to relocate to Murfreesboro, TN.
Supervision:
The Campus Minister reports to and is directed by the Director of Faith Formation and Pastor of St. Rose Catholic Church who offer regular supervision and support as needed.
Work expectations and Compensation:
37.5 hours per week
