Hand in Hand Options

The Hand in Hand Options program is for students who have a diagnosis of an intellectual disability or developmental delay. Curriculum for students in HIHO programs is driven by individualized goals, which provide for a combination of instruction in general education classes, small groups, and one-on-one settings. Support professionals provide direct services for mathematics, reading, language, and study skills. HIHO students are immersed in their grade-level classes for other subject areas with modified lessons relative to the same content studied by their peers. Peer mentors are utilized to support student engagement, learning, and socialization throughout the school day. Four of our Diocesan schools are HIHO partner schools.

One in six students in the Diocese of Nashville have a diagnosed learning disability. To this end, Hand in Hand Options, Inc. assists all Diocesan schools with professional development for teachers and learning specialists and specialized curriculum for students.  Students with specific  learning disabilities adhere to the Diocesan curriculum standards, are supported by dedicated learning specialists, and are provided accommodations and interventions where appropriate. For more information regarding student support for specific learning disabilities, please contact the school directly.
