Description

The Dominican Sisters of Saint Cecilia provide 24-hour nursing assistant care for their elderly sisters in the infirmary within their motherhouse in Nashville. The Sisters are seeking a full-time infirmary aide for the night shift (10:30pm-6:30am) Sunday through Thursday nights. Night-shift differential and benefits are included. The infirmary aide is responsible for providing personal care and delegated services designed to maintain the Sisters’ spiritual, physical, and emotional well-being.

Qualifications:

  • Physically able to provide compassionate hands-on care for the sisters, which includes lifting 50 pounds, safely transferring sisters using assistive equipment, bending, standing, kneeling, crouching
  • Prioritize and organize work effectively and efficiently.
  • Work well as a team member with other personnel and Sister Supervisor.
  • Take initiative and see a task to completion independently.
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing situations.
  • Compassionate and make ethically sound decisions.
  • Is respectful and kind, demonstrating good interpersonal skills with the elderly and others.
  • Communicate difficulties and ask questions for clarity or in order to better carry out the work required.
  • Ability to speak, read, and comprehend written and verbal instructions in English.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence and documentation in English about each Sister.
  • CNA license and previous caregiving experience are preferred but not required

Responsibilities:

  • Help each Sister to reach and maintain the highest level of physical and personal independence.
  • Provide attentive, person-centered care that allows each sister peacefully to live her vowed religious life.
  • Assist the Sisters with personal care that includes but is not restricted to: oral care, personal hygiene, preparation and administration of meals, dressing, grooming, toileting, incontinence care, mobility (i.e. walking) transfers, positioning and range of motion.
  • Ensure the safety of each Sister, i.e. correct body mechanics, and demonstrate proper techniques for lifting and transferring Sisters (includes the correct use of lifts and beds; answering call lights promptly).
  • Maintain the confidentiality of the Sisters regarding medical and personal information.
  • Respond to circumstances and requests in a professional and Christian manner, using a kind tone of voice and remaining calm in difficult or unusual circumstances.
  • Provide a positive environment conducive to a convent setting, attentive to the appropriate silence and with respect for the contemplative aspect of the Sisters’ lives.
  • Perform daily house cleaning duties within the infirmary.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Sister Supervisor.
