St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mayfield, Kentucky is searching for a leader of liturgical music. This is a salaried position that requires a minimum of 20 hours a week, which reports to the Pastor. We are a bi-lingual parish of over 500 families and have 2 English and 1 Spanish Mass on the weekend.
Primary Function:
To serve as pastor’s delegate in the area of liturgical music.
Qualifications:
- Ability to lead congregation while playing keyboard. (Steinway Grand Piano and Simple Electronic Organ)
- Ability to develop and maintain strong professional relationships.
- Building on your musical skills, the pastor is able to help build your liturgical skills.
- Having a knowledge of Catholic liturgy is not a requirement; the pastor will assist in your formation of liturgical abilities.
- Proficient interpersonal skills and written and oral communication skills.
- It is not necessary to be proficient in Spanish or Latin; however, using online resources one would be expected to sing in these languages on occasion.
- It is not necessary for one to be a Roman Catholic; however, it is necessary that one live according to the moral code of the Roman Catholic Church.
- The ability to successfully complete a criminal history and background check, and become certified in diocesan safe environment program.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develops a prayerful, singing assembly through prayer and worship.
- Coordinates the music ministry for all parish liturgies including funerals and other occasional liturgical events.
- To work with the parish staff in creating worship aids as needed.
- Participates in planning the liturgies with the Liturgy Committee.
- Trains, directs, and supervises choirs, instrumental ensembles, and cantors.
