Salary: $25.00 – $32.50 per hour depending on experience

Position Type: Part-time

Experience: 2 – 5 years

Education: Some College Coursework. This position is responsible for direction of the church’s music program under the supervision or delegation of the Pastor. This responsibility includes selecting and leading music in worship as well as the organist role. The music program currently supports cantors and a schola (chant) choir.

Accountability: Accountable to the Pastor.

Relationships: Collaborates with Pastor and Office Manager.

Responsibilities

  1. Direct, coordinate, and oversee the cantors and/or schola (chant) choir for the Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning Masses (i.e. all weekend English Masses), Holy Days of Obligation, Holy Week liturgies, school graduation Masses, funerals, and weddings.
  2. Provide directly or indirectly the playing of the organ for the Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning Masses (i.e. all weekend English Masses), Holy Days of Obligation, Holy Week liturgies, school graduation Masses, funerals, and weddings. (Funeral Masses and weddings also provide a stipend from family for the organist.)
  3. Select music and coordinate performance and accompaniment with the Pastor.
  4. Organize and lead rehearsals for cantors and/or schola (chant) choir.
  5. Recruit new cantors and/or members of the schola (chant) choir as deemed necessary by Director of Music or by Pastor.
  6. Maintain the music resources of the parish.
  7. Provide the Office Manager with the information necessary for inclusion in the weekly church bulletin for weekly Masses or other special occasions.
  8. Meet with the Pastor and/or Office Manager (as needed by Director of Music, Pastor, and/or Office Manager) to plan and coordinate liturgical service.

Responsibilities may change based upon musical needs as determined by the Pastor.

Education, Experience, and Qualifications

  1. A Catholic in good standing preferred.
  2. Demonstrates a willingness to abide by the teachings of the Catholic Church as a public person.
  3. Demonstrates a willingness to work within the decision-making process of Saint John Vianney Catholic Parish.
  4. Has experience in performance of organ music and direction of choir.
  5. Proven experience in directing choirs or education specific to choral direction.
  6. Music education completed or in progress.
  7. Able to attentively listen, lead, and communicate effectively.
  8. Must pass a background check.

Evaluation

Annual performance review will be conducted by the Pastor.

Compensation and Benefits

  • This position pays $25.00 – $32.50 per hour depending on experience. Estimated to require up to 13 hours per week. Up to 5 additional hours may be available upon approval from the Pastor when needed for seasonal music projects.
  • This position receives 26 hours compensated non-cumulative sick leave per year and 39 hours compensated vacation coordinated with Pastor, not to occur during Holy Week, Christmas, Easter, or Sundays from Easter through Corpus Christi.
